dont-believe-thinkingThey’re unwelcome, unwanted and most times even unannounced.  I’m referring to those negative thoughts that pop in our minds and if allowed to stay a minute to long will eventually cause illusions and delusions that take us down to a deep dark pit of gloom and despair. Some tend to think that as children of God we do not face such thoughts as others, but the fact is we do.  The good news is God has set before us his word that will help us to overcome and stand victorious over negative thoughts every single time we put it into effect!

Cut Off Negative Influences

One way to both limit and overcome negative thoughts is not to entertain negativity in the first place. Sometimes we have become so use to negative people and/or things we overlook  them but they’re easy to spot. “A good man out of the good treasures of his heart bringeth forth that which is good: and an evil man out of the evil treasure of heart bringeth forth that which is evil; for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.” Luke 6:45.  That means if you’re watching television or movies with negative messages…cut it off! Find yourself around negative conversations and in negative relationships…cut it off! Anything in your world that influences thoughts of negativity get rid of it because everything we do and everyone we are around will leave residue of thought some good and positive, and some bad and negative.  Remember what Proverbs 23:7 tells us “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he.” Whatever we are left thinking on in time we will eventually become.  Avoid negative influences.

Think About What You Are Thinking About

It’s important to keep our thoughts in check not allowing any and every thought to come in and have a seat so to speak.  We need to stand at the door of our minds with a big sign that says “Negative Thoughts NOT allowed!” Think about what you’re thinking about.  Psalms 119:59 say “I thought on my ways, and turned my feet unto Thy testimonies.” If our thoughts are not of God it’s up to us to change that by thinking and speaking His word which in turn will replace any negativity that tries to set up space in our mind.

Replacements Necessary

One of my favorite scriptures is Philippians 4:8.  It says “finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Even though we face negative thoughts positive is always there as an option that we can think upon. Don’t be so drawn to focus on that which is before you.  We have the power to replace our thoughts with good reports, truth, loveliness and the virtuous things. Replace negative thoughts with whatsoever positive…

Stay Full on The Word

Overall, staying before God is absolutely vital in overcoming negative thoughts that we face daily for it will be build us up and comfort us as we delight in his word. “In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul.” Psalms 94:19

Through His word we can be successful even over negative thoughts! Joshua 1:8 says This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thou way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”
